Web Exclusive: SF mayoral candidate Michela Alioto-Pier
Sixteen people are vying for the position of San Francisco’s mayor, including the current interim mayor, the city’s assessor-recorder, and a taxi driver. Several mayoral candidates have held long-term positions in city government as district supervisors, including Michela Alioto-Pier.
Alioto-Pier is the granddaughter of former San Francisco Mayor Joseph Alioto, and former San Francisco Port Commissioner (and former SF Supervisor) Michael J. Driscoll, Sr. She's also the niece of Angela Alioto, former President of the SF Board of Supervisors.
For seven years, Alioto-Pier represented District 2 on the Board of Supervisors, and now she's running for mayor. In this extended interview, Alioto-Pier discusses her political lineage, crime in the city, education, and retaining the African American population.
This is the fourteenth of KALW News’ San Francisco mayoral candidate interviews. Find all of the candidate Q&As here.
