Five years of Measure Y: street outreach

Yesterday we took a closer look at a violence prevention initiative passed in Oakland five years ago, called measure Y.  Now halfway through its ten-year span, it is still unclear how effective the initiative has been. Measure Y funds have been used to create employment and training programs, counseling and case management services, and community police officers.

Measure Y also funds street outreach teams--groups of residents and young people from the community who go to the most dangerous corners to try to get people out of criminal activity. And that’s the focus of today’s report from Sandhya Dirks.
